I have one of those families who do not own a dog. I have been on the fence about adding a dog to my family mainly because I know it is a big responsibility and I am not sure if my kids are up to the task of being responsible enough to take care of a dog. Below are 4 reasons why I should take a leap of faith and own a dog for my family.
1. About 90% of dog owners surveyed agree dogs make their families stronger by bringing them together and by providing sharing environment. By owning a dog, it will teach the whole family to share duties and play time. The family would need to come together and discuss this new responsibility. Your kids will need to step up and help out.
2. Families with dog as a pet say their kids are responsible for feeding the dog. They will learn the importance of feeding and importance of feeding by staying on schedule. It also teaches kids about measurement and time, which should help in the classroom.
3. Pet Dog can be a great motivation for your kids to get some exercise. Because dogs are naturally active, the owners have no choice but to get active by forcing them to take a walk, play fetch, etc… Dogs can teach us especially our kids to have an active lifestyle.
4. Can you believe even the kids are willing clean up after their dog despite how much kids don’t want to clean themselves up? It shows that when kids understand the importance of being responsible for something, they will do what is right including cleaning up for their pet.
My youngest child is still six so I think I have couple more years before I need to make this important decision. Meanwhile, kids are constantly asking for a pet dog and I need to get used to this. Do you currently own a pet dog? What is your number one reason for owning a dog?
